For posterity:
Tuesday, April 29, 2008: The system for choosing the parameters (rules) of the simulation is going along well. The system is also being refactored a bit so testing will be easier. I hope to have a new source release in a week, and a more detailed explanation of how to configure and run the program.
Also, I put a new branch into the public repository called "staging". In addition to the usual "master" branch, the "staging" branch contains the up-to-date experimental features that could cause the world to end. Recall that anyone can clone the repository by using the command:
git clone git://repo.or.cz/biocity.git
You can also get the latest features with:
git pull git://repo.or.cz/biocity.git staging
This isn't my always up-to-date branch but it's fairly new and has the latest somewhat stable features. Remember this is all experimental! Even the master branch is somewhat experimental. Soon that will change though.
Sunday, April 27, 2008: The project is nearing a state where the user (you) can choose the type of rules that the population will behave according to. There are still a few bugs to be ironed out, but the code is much neater now, and will soon be merged into the official repository. Stay tuned!
Tuesday, April 22, 2008: I finished writing most of my exams so I'll have a bit more time :). I uploaded an archive of code that's available under the "Obtaining It" link. It should compile on almost any Linux distribution, as long as you have the libraries installed.
It is not yet ready for user implementable rules, but anyone who wants to find out more about how the rules are implemented can email me.
Monday, April 21, 2008: Just got the site up and am going to upload some code soon.
